Laboratory Water Purification Systems — Vivagen Type 1, Type 2 & Type 3

Saksham is the authorised Vivagen distributor in Mumbai, supplying lab water purification systems to pharma QC, research and industrial laboratories across India since 1997. We help you choose the right system, then install it, validate it and keep it running.

Our water purification systems

Why laboratory water quality matters

Water is the most-used reagent in any laboratory. Ions, organics (TOC), particles, bacteria and endotoxins in poorly purified water show up as ghost peaks in HPLC, high blanks in ICP-MS and AAS, failed cell cultures and out-of-spec results that are hard to trace back. A dedicated laboratory water purification system gives every analyst water of the same, documented quality, on demand, without buying bottled HPLC water or keeping an old distillation still running.

Type 1 vs Type 2 vs Type 3 lab water — which do you need?

Lab water is graded by resistivity (or conductivity), total organic carbon (TOC) and microbial content. Standards such as ASTM D1193, ISO 3696 and CLSI define the grades, and USP <1231> gives the pharmacopoeial guidance on water for pharmaceutical use.

GradeTypical qualityCommon applications
Type 1 — Ultrapure18.2 MΩ·cm resistivity, very low TOC (ppb), <0.1 CFU/mL bacteria; endotoxin-free optionsHPLC / UHPLC, LC-MS, ICP-MS, AAS, ion chromatography, cell & tissue culture, PCR and molecular biology
Type 2 — Pure / analytical>1 MΩ·cm (<1 µS/cm conductivity)Buffer and media preparation, reagent make-up, wet chemistry, clinical analysers, feed to a Type 1 polisher
Type 3 — RO / generalReverse-osmosis grade waterGlassware rinsing, autoclave and humidifier feed, water baths, environmental chambers

Most labs need two grades: Type 2 or Type 3 water in volume, plus a smaller amount of Type 1 water at the point of use. The Vivagen EXL7 range covers both from one compact system. Not sure which grade your methods need? Send us your SOPs or instrument list and we'll recommend a configuration.

How a lab water purification system works

  • Pre-treatment — sediment and activated-carbon cartridges remove particles and chlorine that would damage downstream membranes.
  • Reverse osmosis (RO) — removes most dissolved salts, organics, bacteria and particles. This gives Type 3 water.
  • Deionisation / polishing — ion-exchange resin (or EDI, depending on model) takes the water to Type 2 or to 18.2 MΩ·cm Type 1.
  • UV photo-oxidation — UV lamps cut TOC and inactivate bacteria for low-organic water for HPLC and LC-MS.
  • Final filtration / ultrafiltration — a 0.2 µm point-of-use filter or ultrafilter removes bacteria, and endotoxins or nucleases for cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Monitoring — built-in resistivity/conductivity (and TOC on selected models) shows water quality on every draw, which supports GLP/GMP documentation.

Vivagen EXL7 water purification systems

The Vivagen EXL7 series (EXL7 Analysis, EXL7 Pure Plus, EXL7 Pure) delivers Type 1 ultrapure and Type 2/3 purified water from potable tap water in a compact benchtop or wall-mounted footprint. Typical Type 1 output is 18.2 MΩ·cm with TOC < 5 ppb, bacteria < 0.1 CFU/mL and endotoxin < 0.001 EU/mL. That is the purity labs usually get from Milli-Q®-class systems, at a lower cost of ownership and with consumables stocked locally in Mumbai.

What you get from Saksham

  • Application sizing: we size daily volume, peak draw and feed-water quality (TDS, hardness) before quoting, so the system isn't over- or under-built.
  • Installation and IQ/OQ documentation for GLP/GMP labs, plus user training.
  • Consumables and spares in stock: pre-filters, RO membranes, polishing cartridges, UV lamps and final filters, usually dispatched within 24–48 hours.
  • AMC and calibration: preventive maintenance visits, conductivity/resistivity cell calibration and service reports for audits.
  • Service across India, from our head office in Thane (Mumbai), covering Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Gujarat and beyond.

Frequently asked questions

What is a laboratory water purification system?

It is a point-of-use system that turns potable tap water into purified lab water (Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3) through pre-filtration, reverse osmosis, deionisation, UV oxidation and final filtration. It replaces distillation units and bottled HPLC water with consistent, monitored water on demand.

What is the difference between Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 water?

Type 1 (ultrapure) water has 18.2 MΩ·cm resistivity and very low TOC. It is used for HPLC, LC-MS, ICP-MS and cell culture. Type 2 water (>1 MΩ·cm) is used for buffers, reagents and analysers. Type 3 is RO-grade water for glassware rinsing, autoclaves and water baths.

Which water purification system is best for HPLC?

HPLC and LC-MS need Type 1 ultrapure water: 18.2 MΩ·cm, low TOC (ideally < 5 ppb) and 0.2 µm filtered. The Vivagen EXL7 Analysis configuration is designed for this.

Is Vivagen an alternative to Milli-Q?

Yes. Vivagen EXL7 systems deliver Type 1 water to the same specifications labs expect from Milli-Q®-class systems (18.2 MΩ·cm, ppb-level TOC, low bacteria and endotoxin), usually at a lower purchase and consumable cost. Milli-Q is a trademark of Merck KGaA.

What is the price of a laboratory water purification system in India?

Price depends on the water grades you need (Type 1, 2 and/or 3), daily volume and flow rate, feed-water quality, and options such as a storage tank, UV/TOC monitoring or ultrafiltration. Share your requirement and we will send a configured quotation within one business day.

Do you provide installation, AMC and consumables for Vivagen systems?

Yes. Saksham installs and qualifies Vivagen systems, offers annual maintenance contracts, and stocks cartridges, RO membranes, UV lamps and final filters in Mumbai for quick replacement anywhere in India.

Can the system be used with tap water?

Yes. Vivagen EXL7 systems are designed to run on potable tap water. If your feed water has very high TDS or hardness, we will recommend a pre-treatment stage during the site survey.

Is a lab water system suitable for pharmaceutical Purified Water (PW) or WFI production?

No. Laboratory systems are for QC, R&D and analytical use. Production-scale Purified Water and WFI per IP/USP/EP need a validated plant-scale generation and distribution system. We can advise on the lab side of your water testing programme.
