ESCO Airstream® PCR Cabinets

Models: Airstream® PCR Cabinet

Compact benchtop PCR workstation preventing amplicon and environmental contamination. HEPA-filtered laminar flow with programmable UV-C decontamination cycle.

Horizontal vs vertical laminar flow

A laminar air flow (LAF) cabinet passes room air through a HEPA (or ULPA) filter and delivers a uniform, particle-free airflow over the work zone, giving ISO Class 5 / Grade A conditions for the product.

  • Horizontal laminar flow: air flows from the back wall towards the operator. Best for large, flat items, media preparation and compounding, with minimal turbulence around the work.
  • Vertical laminar flow: air flows down from the ceiling of the cabinet. Uses less depth, avoids blowing directly at the operator, and suits tall items, IVF, cell-culture plate prep and electronics.
  • PCR cabinets: ULPA-filtered vertical flow with a programmable UV-C cycle to prevent DNA/amplicon contamination in molecular biology and diagnostics.

A laminar flow cabinet protects the product only. For infectious material, use a Class II biosafety cabinet.

Why ESCO Airstream® Gen 3

ESCO Airstream® Gen 3 cabinets use HEPA 99.999% filters (ULPA optional), 304 stainless-steel work surfaces, quiet energy-efficient motors and a microprocessor controller with airflow alarm. They meet ISO 14644-1 Class 5 and EU GMP Grade A air-cleanliness requirements.

Service, validation and AMC

We provide installation, IQ/OQ, airflow velocity and HEPA integrity testing, particle-count verification with TSI particle counters, pre-filter and HEPA replacement, and annual maintenance contracts across Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and the rest of India.

Frequently asked questions

What is a laminar air flow cabinet used for?

It provides particle-free ISO Class 5 air over the work surface to protect samples from contamination. Typical uses are media plate preparation, aseptic handling of non-hazardous materials, compounding, tissue culture prep and electronics assembly.

Which is better, horizontal or vertical laminar flow?

Horizontal flow gives the cleanest air path over flat work and is common for compounding and media prep. Vertical flow takes less depth, does not blow air into the operator's face and suits taller items. Choose based on what you handle and the space available.

Does a laminar flow cabinet protect the operator?

No. Laminar flow cabinets protect only the product. For pathogens, cell lines or hazardous biologicals, use a Class II biosafety cabinet.

How often should HEPA filters in a LAF be tested?

Airflow velocity and HEPA filter integrity are usually tested every 6–12 months in GMP areas, and after any filter change or relocation. Saksham offers this under AMC.
